Introduction: How should the creation story shape our lives today?

1. WE SHOULD WORSHIP GOD ALONE:
A. Creation reveals God’s existence (Psalm 33;8-9).
B. Creation reveals God’s power (Romans 1:18-20):

1) His glory is shown (Psalm 19:1).
2) His glory is suppressed (Romans 1:18).
C. Creation reveals God’s wisdom (Romans 1:21-23):
1) People become futile in their thoughts.
2) People become foolish in their worship.

2. WE SHOULD BE GOOD STEWARDS OF CREATION:
A. Creation is for God’s glory and pleasure (Revelation 4:11).
B. Creation is for our enjoyment & use (1 Timothy 6:17).
C. Creation calls for our proper stewardship (Genesis 1:26-30):

3. WE SHOULD TRUST IN GOD’S PROVIDENCE AND NOT WORRY:
A. Creation relies on God for its needs (Psalm 104:27.
B Creation refuses to worry about its care (Matthew 6:25-26).
C. Creation reminds us to seek God’s kingdom (Matthew 6:31-33):
1) If you put THINGS first, you will worry and fret.
2) If your put GOD first, you’ll have contentment and peace.

4. WE SHOULD LOVE AND SERVE MANKIND:
A. Creation teaches us about our common origin (Acts 17:26).
B. Creation teaches us about our connectedness (Acts 17:26).
C. Creation teaches us about our command to love (Matt. 22:37-39).

5. WE SHOULD READ AND STUDY GOD’S WORD:
A. Creation reveals our Originator (Psalm 119:73).
B. Creation reveals our origin (Genesis 1:1).

CONCLUSION: We need to see this world as belonging to our Father.

1. GOD FORMED HIS CREATION (1:1-13):

A. He Demands Reverence (Psalm 33:9, 104:24).
B. He Does It With Nothing (1:1-2):
C. He Designs Land, Seas, And Skies (1:3-13):
1) DAY 1 (3-5):
a) He speaks light into existence.
b) He separates light and darkness.
2) DAY 2 (6-8):
a) He speaks waters into existence.
b) He separates the waters above and below.
3) DAY 3 (9-13):
a) He speaks land into existence.
b) He separates the land from the waters.
c) He sows seeds for plants.

2. GOD FILLED HIS CREATION (14-31):

A. DAY 4 (14-19):
1) The sky is filled with the sun, moon, and stars.
2) They serve as signs to mark time.
B. DAY 5 (20-23):
1) The skies & seas are filled with living creatures.
2) The summons to be fruitful and multiply.
C. DAY 6 (24-31):
1) The land is filled with animals and humans.
2) The summons to be fruitful and multiply.
3) The superiority of humans.

CONCLUSION: The creation record is firm and foundational.

Introduction: Genesis covers many “firsts”, but we need to remember that God was doing things before “the beginning.”

1. REDEMPTION PLANNED BEFORE GENESIS:

A. The Godhead Existed In Glory:

1) The nature of God is inserted (Genesis 1:26).

2) The nature of God is incomprehensible (Isaiah 55:8-9).

3) The nature of God is infinite (Psalm 90:2).

B. The Godhead Enjoyed Communion:

1) God extends Himself as family oriented.

2) God expresses Himself relationally.

C. The Godhead Envisioned Redemption:

1) A sacrificial death (Acts 2:22-23).

2) A sovereign determination (Acts 4:27-28).

2. REDEMPTION PROMISED DURING GENESIS:

A. A story line with a problem (Genesis 3:15).

B. A story line with a promise (Genesis 12:2-3).

3. REDEMPTION PRESENTED AFTER GENESIS:

A. Gradually revealed throughout time (Galatians 4:4).

B. Getting you back into God’s family (Galatians 4:5).

CONCLUSION: Before Genesis, redemption was in motion.

Introduction: John closes his writing by talking about the importance of his apocalyptic message.

1. INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN TO JOHN (22:6-11):
A. John is told that prophecy is “faithful and true” (6-7).
B. John is told to worship God alone (8-9).
C. John is told to keep the prophecy unsealed (10).
D. John is told about the reality of humanity (11).

2. INVITATION TO COME TO CHRIST (21:12-17):
A. The return of Jesus (12-13).
B. The reward for the righteous (14-15).
C. The relevancy of prophecy (16).
D. The recommendation to “come” (17).

3. IMPORTANCE OF PROPHECY (22:18-21):
A. Do not add to the prophecy (18).
B. Do not subtract from the prophecy (19).
C. Look for Christ’s coming (20).
D. Look to God’s grace (21).
