EXODUS – Operation Rescue LESSON 12

PRIESTHOOD PARALLELS

(Exodus 28-29)

Introduction: Within the theme of God’s people being rescued from Egyptian bondage, the book of Exodus records Israel’s birth as a nation. Israel’s distinction as a nation is that they would be a “kingdom of priests” (Exodus 19:6). Their priesthood serves as a parallel for us as we are called to be a “holy priesthood” today.

1. COMMITTED TO SERVING THE PEOPLE (28:1-30):
A. We Realize Our Privilege To Serve (1-4):
1) Our first obligation is to please the Lord.
2) The privilege of serving is an act of God’s grace.
B. We Represent One Another In Serving (5-29):
1) The ephod reminded the priest of the people.
2) The breastplate reminded the priest of the people.
C. We Remind Others Of God’s Will (30).

2. CONCERNED ABOUT GLORIFYING GOD (28:31-43):
A. Faithfulness Glorifies God (31-35)
B. Fearfulness Glorifies God (36-43)

3. CONSECRATED TO THE WORD (29:1-37):
A. Washing, Clothing, & Anointing (1-9)
B. Sin, Burnt & Wave Offerings (10-30)
C. Eating Of The Ram Of Consecration (31-37)

4. CONTINUOUSLY BUSY (29:38-46):
A. Offerings Day By Day (38-41)
B. Offerings Generation By Generation (42-46)

CONCLUSION: Service to God is a lifestyle, not a set of rules.

2) This is seen in the place of entry.
