EXODUS – Operation Rescue LESSON 7

ALL THE GOOD GOD DOES

(Exodus 17-18)

Introduction: It’s mindboggling to think of every little detail of life that God blesses us with each moment. It’s something Jethro stopped to consider in Israel’s wilderness wanderings when it says that he “rejoiced for all the good the Lord had done for Israel” (Exodus 18:9). Let’s look at the four snapshots of this recorded in Exodus 17-18.

1. GOD DIRECTS OUR STEPS (17:1-7):

A. There Was A Lesson Learned (1-3):

1) The people blamed Moses & tested God.

2) The people’s hearts were still in Egypt.

B. There Was A Lord Unnoticed (4-7).

1) They looked past God’s grace.

2) They lacked trust in God.

2. GOD DEFEATS OUR ENEMIES (17:8-16):

A. The Enemy (8)Faith In God’s Promises (16:4-5)

B. The Victory (9-13):

1) God’s Power (9)

2) God’s Partner (10)

3) God’s Partnership (11-13)

C. The Testimony (14-16)

3. GOD DESERVES OUR PRAISE (18:1-12):

A. Jethro’s Message (1-6)

B. Jethro’s Arrival (7-8)

C. Jethro’s Worship (9-12)

4. GOD DISTRIBUTES OUR BURDENS (18:13-27):

A. The Situation (13-18)

B. The Suggestion (19-23)

C. The Solution (24-27)

CONCLUSION: Do you stop to think about all the good God does?

Bible Study Outline

Introduction: “Mountain top” experiences in life are wonderful, but it’s in the valley and in the wilderness that we learn wisdom. As the people of God thrill in their deliverance from Egyptian bondage and their miraculous rescue through the parting of the Red Sea, they must now learn some lessons in the wilderness.

1. REALIZE THAT TRIALS WILL COME (15:22 – 16:3):
A. They Had Nothing To Drink (15:22-27):
1) The Problem (15:22-24)
2) The Purification (15:25)
3) The Promise (15:26-27)
B. They Had Nothing To Eat (16:1-3):
1) The Murmuring Voices (16:1-2)
2) The Mistaken View (16:3)

2. RELY ON GOD’S HELP (16:4-15):
A. Faith In God’s Promises (16:4-5)
B. Focus On God’s Glory (16:6-10):
1) The priority of it (6-7)
2) The purpose of it (8-10)
C. Feed On God’s Faithfulness (16:11-15):
1) The food from God (11-14)
2) The faithfulness of God (15-16)

3. RENDER OBEDIENCE TO GOD (16:16-36):
A. Gather The Manna (16:16-21)
B. Remember The Sabbath (16:22-31)
C. Observe The Memorials (16:32-36)

CONCLUSION: Wisdom can be found when you look for it.

Bible Study Outline

Introduction: It has been said, “With freedom comes great responsibility.” This was a lesson the Israelites needed to learn as they made their way out of Egypt and were set free from bondage. Let’s consider three responsibilities placed upon them.

1. FOLLOWING THE LORD (13:17-22):
A. Let The Lord Design A Path (13:17-18):
1) Take the path He chooses.
2) Trust His way is the best.
B. Let The Lord Direct Your Steps (13:19):
1) Follow His guidance.
2) Focus on every detail.
C. Let The Lord Drive Your Life (13-20-22):
1) Direction for you.
2) Darkness for your enemy.

2. TRUSTING THE LORD (14:1-31):
A. The Pursuit of the Egyptians (1-9)
B. The Panic of the Israelites (10-12)
C. The Power of God (13-31):
1) The Protecting (13-20)
2) The Parting (21-22)
3) The Perishing (23-31)

3. PRAISING THE LORD (15:1-21):
A. A Declaration of Victory (1-5)
B. A Description of the Weapons (6-10)
C. A Distinction in God’s Character (11-18):
1) Strength for His people (11-13)
2) Sorrow for His enemies (14-17)
3) Shouts of praise for victory (18-21)

CONCLUSION: Responsible living should be the reaction of redeemed people.
