LEVITICUS – Pursuing Holiness LESSON 2

APPROACHING A HOLY GOD

(Leviticus 1-7)

Introduction: Leviticus is about the holiness of God and the challenge for His people to “Be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy” (19:2). To even come into the presence of a holy God, we need to understand the seriousness of that privilege. So, the first 7 chapters of Leviticus explain the offerings/sacrifices that make approaching God possible.

1. APPROACHING ACCEPTABLY (Chapters 1-5):
A. The Approach When IN Fellowship With God (1:1 – 3:17):
1) The Burnt Offering (1:1-17):
A) Bringing the herds (1-8)
B) Bringing the flocks (9-13)
C) Bringing the birds (14-17)
2) The Grain Offering (2:1-16):
A) Brought with fine flour (1-3)
B) Baked in an oven or pan (4-10)
C) Brought without leaven, having salt & oil (11-16)
3) The Peace Offering (3:1-17):
A) Bringing the herds (1-5)
B) Bringing the flocks (6-17)
B. The Approach When OUT OF Fellowship With God (4:1 – 6:7)
1) The Sin Offering (4:1 – 5:13):
A) For the congregation (4:1-26)
B) For the common people (4:27 – 5:13)
2) The Trespass Offering (5:13 – 6:7):
A) Against God (5:13-19)
B) Against your neighbor (6:1-7)

2. ADMINISTERING ACCEPTABLY (Chapters 6-7):
A. The Burnt Offering (6:8-13)
B. The Grain Offering (6:14-23)
C. The Sin Offering (6:24-30)
D. The Trespass Offering (7:1-10)
E. The Peace Offering (7:11-36)

CONCLUSION: Jesus is now the way to approach God (Heb. 10:8-10).

LEVITICUS – Pursuing Holiness LESSON 1

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HOLINESS

(Leviticus, Introduction)

Introduction: The Book of Leviticus finds relevance in a world today that is in pursuit of happiness rather than holiness. Though it is written for the priests and Levites in ancient Israel, the principles related to personal purity apply to all Christians for all time. In this opening introductory lesson, we will explore why this is so important.

1. A HOLY LORD:
A. The Purpose of Scripture (Leviticus 20:7-8)
B. The Positive of Sanctity (Leviticus 17:10-11)
C. The Privilege of “Set Apart” (Deuteronomy 7:6).
D. The Prescription for Sound Health (Leviticus 10:9-10)
E. The Platform for Showing God (Deuteronomy 26:18-19)

2. A HOLY LIFE:
A. The Purpose for God’s People (Exodus 19:6)
B. The Peculiarity of God’s People (Leviticus 10:9-10)
C. The Praises of God’s People (1 Peter 2:9)
D. The Program for God’s People (Leviticus 20:26)

3. A HOLY LAND:
A. Sins of The Land:
1) Defilement (Leviticus 18:24-25)
2) The reason for the veil (Leviticus 18:25)
B. Sanctification of The Land:
1) Priests in The Land (Leviticus 21-22)
2) Feasts in The Land (Leviticus 23)
3) Features of Worship (Leviticus 24)

CONCLUSION: How often do you emphasize personal holiness as the most important thing in the world?

A. The Great Sin (32:1-6)
B. The Great Test (32:7-14)
C. The Great Discipline (32:15 – 33:11):
1) Moses disciplined the people (32:15-34)
2) God disciplined the people (32:35 – 33:11)

2. THE GRACE: GOD’S POINT MAN INTERCEDES (33:12 – 34:28):
A. God’s Presence With Them (33:12-17)
B. God’s Power Over Them (33:18-23)
C. God’s Pardon Upon Them (34:1-28)

3. THE GLORY: GOD’S PRESENCE PREVAILS (34:29-35, 40:1-38):
A. A Matter Of Reflection (34:29-35):
1) The reflection of Moses’ face (29-32)
